For our customers around the world
Farfa in Sabina, well known for its medieval center, owes much of its fame to the Benedictan abbey founded in the 5th century.
Thanks to the visits
and testimony of many important historical
personalities such as Charlemagne, Farfa
became a noted center for commerce and
cultural exchange. Within this cultural and architectural background , Elisabetta
Scipioni chose to follow the tradition of textile weaving that her family,
generations ago in 1938, introduced into
this charming village.
Created by her grandmother
“La nonna” Teodolinda, the business was then handed down to her son Gustavo.
Elisabetta is now carrying on the textile weaving tradition in her new studio, “
C’era un tessuto”(Once upon a time fabrics).
Within the walls
of this ancient hamlet, she continues to
keep alive and jealously protect the secrets of this artisan tradition from a
bygone era.
Weaving on a
traditional wooden loom as well as a Jacquard loom, Elisabetta ensures a
product that is decidedly state of the art quality within the already
cited techniques.
Typical of this
style of weaving work are; original rugs made of wool or cotton renmnants,
curtains in pure linen, tablecloths in pure linen and cotton, (all with
hemstitching or lace) and linen or cotton
towels with or without fringing.
It is with scissors
in hand that Elisabettas’ creativity is unleashed, and it is here that bags,
beach towels and pochettes in limitless patterns are created to size at the
clients request.
These requests are
possible due to the ability to create material of over 3 meters.
It is clear that
tradition, style, and naturalness are intertwined, giving life to products that
are an expression of love and passion for nature and craftsmanship.
